Thirty-one-year-old Sosnovsky was one of five men who, according to a Moscow prosecutor’s office, abducted and blackmailed a Russian businessman. The men were to be abducted and taken to his office, where they threatened to kill him and demanded that he refuse to recover a debt of 400 thousand rubles, ie about 114 thousand Czech crowns, from their friend.

The kidnappers beat the man and tried to strangle him. The businessman managed to escape and reported the matter to the police. Dmitry Sosnovsky’s lawyer said the victim had not been held in office by force and that his client had only been there by accident. However, this did not overwhelm the Moscow courts.

The Ukrainian fighter, who has won 11 professional MMA matches, will serve his eight-and-a-half-year sentence in a penal colony with maximum security. His training partner and heavyweight colleague Alexei Olejnik said he was disgusted and disappointed with the whole affair.
