Stefanika, 36, who represents the state of New York and has grown from a moderate Republican to a Trump supporter, easily outperformed a late entrant in the race and was elected by secret ballot with 134 votes in favor and 46 against.
“I focus on unity because it deserves the American people and our constituents,” Stefanika said after her election to the group’s third most important post.
“We are on the offensive and intend to regain the majority in 2022,” said Stefanika, who has become the most influential Republican woman in Congress.
The vote came two days after House of Representatives Republicans voted to remove Trump’s critic Lisa Cheney as group chair.
Republicans have indicated that Chechnya has been removed from the group’s third most important position in the name of party unity because her attacks on Tramp only exacerbated the division among Republicans.
Republicans aim to develop a message for the House of Representatives ‘by-elections in 2022, but some fear that not rejecting Trump’s rhetoric could harm Republicans’ chances in the election.
Stefanika made it clear that Trump and trampism will remain important in efforts to turn back the “destructive, radical, far-left socialist agenda” of President Joe Biden and the Democratic Party.
Trumps “are an important part of our Republican team,” Stefanika said.
“I support President Trump, the electorate supports President Trump,” she added. “He is an important voice in our Republican Party and we look forward to working with him.”
Trump immediately congratulated Stefanik on his “convincing” election. “House Republicans are united and the ‘Make America great again’ is strong!” announced Tramps.
