Facebook (NASDAQ: FB) announced on Wednesday that former President Donald Trump was banned from maintaining his account on his social media platforms.
What happened
The social media company banned Trump from the Facebook and Instagram platforms in the wake of the Jan. 6 riots when Trump supporters stormed Capitol Hill in an effort to stop Electoral College’s confirmation of Joe Biden’s election as the nation’s 46th President. Trump reported that he had reached out to the Facebook board of directors.
In announcing its decision, the board stated:

It appears that Donald Trump has repeatedly violated Facebook’s Terms of Service, inciting hatred, spreading disinformation, inciting violence and serving as a role model for other authoritarian leaders to abuse Facebook. He should be banished forever.
“But don’t let Facebook’s governing body distract you from the need to ensure real accountability for hate speech, campaign flights, disinformation and other harmful content.”
How it goes on
Trump was banned from other social platforms after the riots on Capitol Hill, though it’s possible he will return at some point.
