At the same time, the Russian authorities state that the Czech embassy is not allowed to employ more than 19 Russian citizens, while the American embassy is not allowed to employ anyone at all.
Relations between Russia and the West have deteriorated following the large Russian build-up of forces on Ukraine’s borders, and also after the Czech Republic reported that Russian agents were behind an explosion in a weapons depot in the country in 2014. This has led to a long diplomatic dispute in which the countries have expelled each other embassy staff.
