Russia issues decree, US and Czech as hostile countries

Moscow

Russia officially stipulates United States of America (AS) and Czech Republic as a hostile country. This assignment comes amid the biggest crisis in relations between Moscow and Washington in recent years.

As reported AFP, Saturday (15/5/2021), the government Russia issued a decree signed by Prime Minister (PM) Mikhail Mishustin accompanied by a list of unfriendly countries.

The US and the Czech Republic are deemed to have committed inhospitable actions against Russia, Russian citizens or Russian entities. The list of hostile countries now includes the US and the Czech Republic.

Czech embassies will be allowed to employ no more than 19 Russian citizens and no US embassy at all.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow remains ready for dialogue, the state news agency TASS reported, emphasizing the fact that Russia now has only two countries on its list of hostile nations.

Prague said the move would only “improve relations” between Moscow and the Czech Republic, the European Union and its allies.

“We regret that Russia has embarked on a path of confrontation at its own expense,” the Czech Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“This action will also indirectly affect the potential for the development of relations between ordinary citizens, tourism and the development of business relations,” he added.

EU chief Charles Michel tweeted ‘complete solidarity’ with Prague as he insisted Rusai’s move was undermining diplomatic relations.

“Attempts to divide the European Union have been futile,” wrote Michel.
