Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
World Health Organization (WHO) stated that the second year of the pandemic Covid-19 by 2022 it is more “deadly” than ever.
“We see that the second year of this pandemic is much deadlier than the first year,” said WHO Director General, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, quoted from AFP, Friday (14/5).
Through this statement, Ghebreyesus encouraged rich countries to donate the Covid-19 vaccine instead of vaccinating groups of children and adolescents.
He understands the reasons why some countries want to vaccinate groups of children and adolescents. However, he hopes rich countries consider donating the vaccine to the global vaccine distribution program, Covax.
“I understand why some countries want to vaccinate children and adolescents, but right now I urge them to reconsider and donate the vaccine to Covax,” he said.
As reported ReutersGhebreyesus said that the pandemic had become more severe in the second year in line with conditions in India, a country of great concern to WHO.
The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, stated that his country was indeed in a critical period for Covid-19. According to him, the worst transmission rate occurred in the village.
On Friday (14/5), it was recorded that a total of more than 24 million people in India tested positive for Covid-19. This Friday is also the third day that the death toll from Covid-19 in India has reached more than 4,000.
Previously, Ghebreyesus also mentioned that the number of Covid-19 cases in the past month was five times higher than the first five months of the pandemic.
