JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Some people assume that heating the engine automatic car with the position of the lever on P it is wrong. Many say that position transmission lever must be in the N position.
The reason is, if the position of the lever is in P, the oil pump does not work and does not lubricate the components in the transmission system. As a result, the components in the automatic transmission will wear out and their lifespan is shorter.
Responding to this, the Head of Product Improvement / EDER of the Technical Service Division of PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) Bambang Supriyadi said that this assumption was not true, and even led to mistakes.

“Not true. Between the P and N positions, the transmission oil will continue to work, ”said Bambang to Kompas.com, Monday (11/5/2021).
Bambang explained, when the lever position is on P, the lock output shaft will be locked manually. When the lever is moved to the N position, the lock will release from the shaft.
In automatic transmission cars, the transmission oil pump will immediately work in harmony with the engine speed. As soon as the engine starts, the oil pump will come to work and the oil pressure will immediately move to lubricate the canvass and other components.
“So it doesn’t matter whether it is on P or N. Anyway, now heat up the car it doesn’t take long, the technology of materials and oil is more sophisticated. So as soon as the engine starts, it doesn’t matter if you want to use it immediately, ”he said.

However, according to Bambang, from a safety point of view, the correct position of the lever when heating the engine is in the P.
This is to prevent the car from moving. Also, don’t forget to activate the handbrake.
