The federal parliament has decided on a protective umbrella for large events that cannot take place due to the corona pandemic. The Glarus government council wants to be able to use this protective shield on the Sound of Glarus music festival from August 26th to 28th and on the Glarus fair from October 28th to November 1st. For this he has now approved a loan of 500,000 francs. Because both events are important beyond the Glarnerland, as the government council writes in a message on Wednesday.
Tested, vaccinated or recovered
If the Glarner Messe or the Sound of Glarus had to be canceled at short notice, the organizers could claim the protective screen. This allows you to continue planning, although the closer you get to the appointment, the greater your costs. You shouldn’t have to pull the rip cord early because of uncertainty as to whether the corona situation will make the event possible and because of impending losses.
Because the canton can only guarantee if the money is actually available, the government council has made the decision urgently. The canton would use it to advance the federal protective shield money and pay its own share, at least half of it.
The government council also states in the announcement that major events in the summer may only be attended by tested, recovered or vaccinated people.
Gastronomy most often in need
The government councilor reaches the district administrator with a much higher amount. He is to increase the Corona hardship fund by a further 18.5 million francs to a total of 40 million.
Hardship aid of 10.8 million francs had already been paid out by May 5. Of the 202 applications submitted so far, 161 have been approved. The catering industry (113), shops for non-everyday needs (32) and the event industry (15) submitted the most applications.
This emergency aid for companies should still not have to be repaid, this is the most suitable financial aid, explains the government council.
