In the final, which was played at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, RB Leipzig lost to BVB 1: 4 (0: 3). Piszczek scored the entire match in the team from Dortmund. It will probably be the last trophy of a Pole who wants to return to Goczałkowice after the end of the season and continue playing football there.
After the match, Piszczek did not hide his emotions. He cried out and was immediately surrounded by his colleagues. Partners from the team tossed a Pole, who only had two more matches to play for Borussia Dortmund.
Journalists assessing Thursday’s game appreciated the Pole. The Sportbuzzer.de portal awarded Piszczek a 2nd grade (1st world class, 6th performance below the criticism). “After eleven great years in Dortmund, he reached for another title. After the match, the Pole was not ashamed of his emotions, he shed tears. During the match, the Polish veteran was very calm and had everything under his control” – we read in the justification.
The German team of Sky Sport agreed with this assessment of the defender. He also gave Piszczek a “2” note, arguing for the high level presented on the right-hand side. “He held his flank solidly. Routineer”.
Piszczek received a slightly weaker grade from the journalists of spox.com. “In his last match for a high stake, he showed that he did not lose his disposition. Great effort was rewarded. The Pole controlled the situation on the pitch and impressed in defense” – it was written.
For Łukasz Piszczek, the German Cup was a trophy won against BVB. The Pole is a legend of this club and although he was persuaded to extend the contract, he refused. Piszczek with Borussia won the German Cup three times (2012, 2017, 2021), the national championship twice (2011, 2012) and the German Super Cup twice (2014, 2019).
