The cabinet now does not want extra relaxation for the restaurant and fair

The cabinet is not prepared to also open restaurants, the fair and cultural institutions from next week. Only the library will be included on the list of planned relaxations from 19 May. “It is already very exciting, we are not taking more risks,” said Prime Minister Rutte in the debate about the less strict corona rules.

The House of Representatives is happy that more is possible, slowly but surely. If the number of infections does not increase rapidly, go from May 19 gyms and swimming pools open, amusement parks and zoos outside can receive guests and the terraces open longer; from 6am to 8pm.

Not logical

But there is also criticism of the arbitrariness in the choice of the easing. Why can gyms open and restaurants are not allowed to receive a few guests, PVV leader Wilders wants to know. “Why can you play sports with thirty people and not sit in a restaurant with thirty people?” The VVD government party talks about “contradictions” in the cabinet’s choices. “It doesn’t feel logical and it won’t be,” said VVD MP Hermans.

The PvdA, SP and Party for the Animals want museums and cultural institutions to be included on next week’s list of relaxation. “Why does the Mauritshuis remain closed and is Hennis & Maurits open?”, PvdA MP Kuiken wants to know.

Rutte says he understands the feeling of injustice, but says that there is really no more possible. “This is the maximum that can be done.”

Books

Only the libraries are allowed to open, from 20 May. Many parties had also asked for this. Some libraries are already open for ordered books, self-study and daytime activities for certain groups.

In the debate, Minister De Jonge expressed his concerns about the supply of the Janssen vaccine. There are production problems at the American factories and that could have consequences for his plan to have everyone in the Netherlands given at least one vaccine at the beginning of July. “I’m not sure about Janssen. We ordered three million. So it’s very relevant.” According to De Jonge, it is still too early to say whether or not his milestone of early July can be reached.

Yellow vaccination booklet

Furthermore, De Jonge said that the coronaprik does not have to be listed in the yellow vaccination booklet, according to the publisher SDU international evidence where vaccinations can be included, such as yellow fever or hepatitis A and B. A note of a corona vaccination could be useful for the Dutch. who go on holiday now that the European vaccination certificate does not yet exist.

However, some GGDs do not always appear to be willing to write down the injection in the booklet they brought along. Minister De Jonge supports this approach. He says the yellow vaccination booklet has no international status and that it is “unusable”. It would also generate too much extra work for GGD employees. De Jonge advises everyone to keep the vaccination card provided and to take it with them.
