National borders no longer play a major role – at least when it comes to trade. Love does not stop at them either. But when partners from two countries want to visit or live together, borders can become a big problem. Especially when a person comes from a third country that requires a visa, the couples have to grapple with visa applications, embassy visits and entry restrictions. The pandemic has further exacerbated their situation. Since then, couples who live in different EU countries have also been temporarily separated.
