Asus unveiled its new generation of ZenFone smartphones, with the launch of two models, the compact version ZenFone 8 and Flip. This second maintains the same rotating camera system as the most recent generations, while the other has the usual punch-hole with selfie camera.
SY Hsu, co-CEO of Asus starts the event by highlighting the innovation of its rotating camera, offering more screen space, and image quality. But without much ado, he begins by officially unveiling the ZenFone 8, in its compact version. The manufacturer says that at first glance it looks like a conventional smartphone, but the company points out that less and less smartphones are used to make calls, but to surf the internet.
And although there are compact models, the company hopes to offer an ergonomic model, without compromises. The company has done many simulations considering the distance the thumb travels, but also the ideal size to fit in the pocket, so the new proposal is 5.9 inches. But as it has very thin frames, the area looks larger. It has two colors, black and white.
But the company recalls that size does not mean that it is a budget smartphpone, and features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 as a processor, a 4,000 mAh battery with fast charging at 30W, within a compact chassis: powerful and optimized for use with just one hand. It has 16 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of internal storage.
Asus says that the equipment uses the System Perfomance Manager which allows users to switch from high performance of the equipment to saving mode, upon use. And the battery keeps the technology that manages its life time, with programming to turn off so as not to overcharge at night. The 120 Hz AMOLED screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus technology. It has 1,100 nits of brightness and Delta color compatibility
As for the camera module, it has a 64 MP Sony IMX 686 main sensor. It also has a 12 MP wide angle with the Sony IMX 363 sensor. It also has a 12 MP Sony IMX 663 sensor for selfies.
Another “novelty” of the ZenFone 8 is the return of the 3.5 mm jack to connect a wired headset. It has the Cirrus Logic CS 35L45 to offer superior audio quality. And its AudioWizard software returns with several options for the most purist audiophiles.
Zenfone 8 Flip
As you would expect, Asus unveiled the Zenfone 8 Flip, with a 50% stronger hinge than the previous one. It has two colors black and gray. It also has a Snapdragon 888 processor, supports Wi-Fi 6e. It has a screen of 1,000 nits, at 90Hz and 1 ms of response. It has a 5,000 mAh battery, with performance optimization and fast charging boost.
It has 2 Yes slots and an extra SD Card. You can mute each card, users choose where they want to receive the data.
The camera module maintains the three sensors, the main one being 64 MP, an 8 MP telephoto lens and a 12 MP macro. It is also advanced that the cameras can record video at 8K. Like previous models, camera rotation allows automatic panoramic photos to be taken. And it has several predefined angles, offering the same quality for both conventional photos and selfies, because it is the same lens. He also promises to put the whole group of friends in the photo through the largest area of the wide angle. Zooms are also automatic, allowing you to keep objects moving on the screen. And it has a way to show objects in vlogs, locking the focus, similar to what the Sony ZV-1 does with its vlogging camera.
As for prices, the ZenFone 8 6/128 GB starts at 599 euros. The device has three memory configurations, with 8/128 and 8/256 GB. The ZenFone 8 Flip version with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage hits stores for 799 euros. The company has no advance release dates, promising soon.
