Once again, the Republicans in the United States have turned against a longtime party supporter. Because he had positioned himself against Donald Trump.
Utah / Weber County – Is another Republican veteran now at the collar because of ex-President Donald Trump? It seems so, because Weber County’s Republicans took a clear stand against him and pro Trump at a party conference (Weber County Republican Convention). Above all, this seems to please the former president beyond measure, the former US president hailed the decision in a statement.
The focus is on longtime party supporter and Utah Senator Mitt Romney. Once a colorful figure in the party, it was he who ran against incumbent Barack Obama in 2012 and received 47.2% of the vote. But why are at least parts of the Republicans in his state now opposed to him?
Against Donald Trump: Republicans reprimand Senator
For some Republicans, Mitt Romney was almost a betrayal of the king when he sided with those who voted to impeach Donald Trump. For this he now received a public reprimand from the Weber County Republican Convention. Weber County is one of the most populous administrative districts in the state of Utah, which Romney represents in the US Senate.
His vote for Trump’s impeachment process would have “denied the president due process, allowed false evidence and not given him enough time for an investigation.” In addition, Romney would have violated the US Constitution with his vote: “Because a president can only be removed from office for serious crimes and offenses,” says the published resolution. It is further emphasized that Romney’s procedure to vote for impeachment “without sufficient evidence” was both “wrong and unethical”.
They opposed Donald Trump – other senators reprimanded
Mitt Romney is not alone with the complaint. While he was the only Republican senator to vote for the first impeachment, other senators joined in the second trial. Republicans such as Richard Burr (Senator from North Carolina), Bill Cassidy (Senator from Louisiana), Susan Collins (Senator from Maine), Lisa Murkowski (Senator from Alaska), Ben Sasse (Senator from Nebraska) also voted in Donald Trump’s second impeachment proceedings ), and Pat Toomey (Senator from Pennsylvania) for the impeachment.
With the exception of Susan Collins and Ben Sasse, all the other senators named have also received reprimands from their colleagues in the respective states. Always for the reason that they voted for an impeachment from Donald Trump, as The Hill sums up.

Donald Trump cheers after reprimanding Mitt Romney
And who could be more pleased with the latest rebuke than the ex-president? In a statement, Trump celebrated the punishment for his adversary Romney with the words: “After Mitt Romney was booed loudly at the party convention of the Republicans of Utah, Utah’s Weber County has the RINO. Red.) Mitt Romney now reprimanded in the most serious way. ”And added in his unmistakable way: Romney was“ BAD NEWS ”for the USA. (Sophia Lother)
