Serge Aurier has become a surprise target for Real Madrid amid doubts about his future with Tottenham, according to reports.
Aurier has played for Tottenham since 2017, when he arrived from Paris Saint-Germain. He initially had to fight Kieran Trippier for a starting role at right back and now faces competition from Matt Doherty. After starting 31 Premier League games last season, this time he has managed 19.
It is still unclear if Aurier will be able to add to his Tottenham accounts next season. He has long been linked to an exit, although while there is uncertainty about his next coach, it seems that nothing will be decided.
Either way, the Ivorian is still linked to several major clubs. For example, recently there were rumors that Mauricio Pochettino could try to lure him back to Paris Saint-Germain for a reunion.
But another European giant considering Aurier, according to Foot Mercato, is Real Madrid.
Aurier is considering his future as the final year of his contract approaches. Madrid wants to strengthen its right back and its price of 12 million euros, which Tottenham has not changed since the claims in March, would apparently be within their grasp.
The La Liga giants admire his ability to play either as a winger in a back four, or as a winger in front of a back three. They have used both systems this season.
Apparently, there have been conversations between Aurier and his former partner in Lens, Raphael Varane, to learn about life in the Spanish capital. Varane himself may be on the go this summer, but he can still offer some advice to his old teammate.
If Madrid make a move for Aurier, only time will tell.
Tottenham will sell Sánchez
Another defender who could leave Tottenham is Davinson Sánchez. Football Insider reports that Spurs will hear offers for the Colombian this summer after four years at the club.
The 24-year-old arrived in 2017 for a fee of almost 40 million pounds, which at the time was a club record signing.
However, the defender has fallen out of favor this season and has not played with Ryan Mason. He has made 16 Premier League starts with his last start in April against Newcastle.
Steve Hitchen, who was the head scout when Sánchez joined in 2017, leads the team that is identifying his replacement, according to the source.

The club reportedly has a short list of names ready.
Sánchez’s departure will leave only three senior center-backs at the club: Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Joe Rodon.
Sánchez still has three years to fulfill his contract, but the club is unlikely to recoup its investment in the former Ajax player.
