André Villas-Boas will make his WRC debut on the occasion of Rally Portugal, thus taking a further step in his connection with the world of rallying. After competing in the 2018 edition of the Dakar with an Overdrive Toyota Hilux and test the Citroën C3 R5 in a private test last year During the forced stoppage of the football world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the former coach of Porto, Chelsea, Tottenham and Olympique de Marseille feels prepared to compete at the highest level. For that end, Villas-Boas will compete with a Citroën C3 Rally2 entered in the WRC3 class of the Rally de Portugal.
The Portuguese coach has a special connection to motorsport, largely motivated by the sporting career of one of his uncles. In fact, Villas-Boas decided to contest the Dakar 2018 to emulate his familiar, although his adventure with the Toyota Hilux of Overdrive ended abruptly in the fourth stage of the raid after suffering a mishap in the dunes and having to be evacuated with a lumbar trauma. Since then, André Villas-Boas is more focused on speed rallies, to the point of testing a Citroën C3 R5 from the Sport & You team in 2020 with a view to competing this year in an event.
A project that has finished being confirmed in recent weeks, which has led Villas-Boas to compete in the Vieira do Minho Rally in preparation for his presence at the Rally de Portugal. In the World Cup event, eThe 43-year-old Portuguese coach will be at the controls of a Citroën C3 Rally2 within the WRC3 category, in which he will fight with pilots of the stature of Kajetan Kajetanowicz, Chris Ingram, Jan Solans or Pepe López. The coach will be co-piloted by his compatriot Gonçalo Magalhaes in this adventure that perhaps represents the beginning of a more serious trajectory in the WRC.
