A film written and directed by Aurélie Condou, narrated by David Séchan, Wednesday June 2 at 9:15 p.m. on TMC.
A CAPA / UNIVERSAL MUSIC FRANCE co-production.
“Renaud, told by his twin brother David and his little sister Sophie, who until then had remained in the shadows, is the promise of this documentary. An intimate word accompanied by other unpublished testimonies such as those of his childhood friends, his firsts girlfriends from high school or the very moving and exclusive one of Ingrid Betancourt, for whom he was incredibly mobilized while she was hostage of the FARCS.
The film retraces the life of the singer since his earliest childhood, thanks to a large number of family archives, most of them unpublished. We also discover the most recent images of Renaud during a visit by his brother to Ile-sur-la-Sorgue. David Séchan tells everything from the inside. His childhood, his career, his world, his wounds or even his struggles: humanist, ecological, political. His sister and friends like Pia, Georges Moustaki’s daughter, tell us about the friend and lover he is …
Beyond being one of the most popular singers in France, Renaud is also the one who has so far marked several eras, aroused controversy and enthusiasm, worried by his cracks, certainly triggered respect, admiration and especially love. All his records have the flavor of an intense emotion that often resonates with all of us.
Front row seat, David. His twin brother. First by his side necessarily, in his admirable career. Still there almost 70 years later. It was he who initiated the exhibition dedicated to the singer, which is currently being held at the Philharmonie de Paris. He is undoubtedly the one who allows himself to talk about his brother in the most authentic way … sometimes without complacency, but always with a lot of love. Through his mirror-eyes, the singer will reflect himself as we have not often seen him.
Who better than Renaud’s brother and sister to talk about the famous Séchan clan, to which the singer has always felt very close? How did they cope with their brother’s success? But also to his demons? How was Renaud built? What brother is he? …
The singer’s relatives also set the record straight on what is sometimes said in the press and which deeply hurts them. Renaud’s relationship with his father… His latest creations… David will come back to what brought them together or confronted them through the ages. What is certain today is that he wants to celebrate his brother. The one we know throughout France by his first name only. A modern-day poet, for whom the French language is a precious and infinite heritage and who once again deserves a “fucking documentary”. “
With the testimonies of: David Séchan (brother of Renaud); Sophie Séchan (Renaud’s little sister); Ingrid Bétancourt (ex-hostage and friend of Renaud); Mélanie Delloye (daughter of Ingrid Bétancourt); Pia Moustaki (friend of Renaud and daughter of Georges Moustaki); Dridda Perrier (Renaud’s ex-girlfriend); Michel Pons (Renaud’s first accordionist) and Mourad Malki (Renaud’s friend).
