Suncorp and Leo Burnett have lit “One House to Save Many”, a prototype house specifically designed to withstand extreme weather conditions.
A couple of years ago the insurer Suncorp Insurance entrusted the agency Leo Burnett a project to encourage Australians to prepare for what turned out to be Australia’s deadliest and most destructive cyclone and bushfire season.
After completing the initial phases of the campaign, Leo Burnett decided to give it a twist and focus not so much on protection as on prevention. What if we could make the houses more resistant? With natural disasters costing insurance companies more than $ 150 billion a year, the concept of a more resilient home immediately caught the attention of Suncorp Insurance, ”explains Eric Franken, senior copywriter at Leo Burnett, speaking to Muse.
The agency then sought advice from the design point of view of the Glue Society. and also partnered with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), James Cook University and the Room 11 Architects studio to ultimately illuminate “One House to Save Many”, a prototype housing specifically designed to withstand extreme weather conditions.
On this online experience the Internet user can virtually visit the house that, equipped with three bedrooms and two bathrooms and with an area of 375 square meters, It is inspired by the typical houses of the Australian region of Queensland.
Suncorp Insurance and Leo Burnett have also created a 23-minute documentary that provides more details on “One House to Save Many.” It also includes moving interviews with Australians who have regrettably lost their homes as a result of devastating natural disasters.

The house proposed by “One House to Save Many” is within the reach of the average Australian budget when they build a new house and their building materials are not excessively expensive.
In a filming carried out at James Cook University a “One House to Save Many” prototype successfully tackles scorching tongues of fire, torrential rains and hurricane-force winds.

“To simulate the wind, high-power fans were used with the ultimate aim of reproducing the effects generated by a Category 5 cyclone.”, says Lucy Appleyard, producer of Leo Burnett. “A sprinkler system was used, on the other hand, to mimic the windy rain that so often occurs during a storm. And the fire was created using cannons of embers, “he adds.
With “One House to Save Many” Suncorp Insurance aims to challenge conventional thinking about home construction encouraging owners, builders and institutions not to lose sight of the resistance of such homes.
«We want to generate a conversation about building codes, which urgently need to be reviewed in light of the increasing impact of extreme weather conditions on our lives, “said Andrew Ferguson, executive creative director at Leo Burnett.
