With the launch of Captain Marvel the film franchise first got a solo film for a female superhero. But the sequel to the movie follows a different path than other sequels in the Marvel Cinematic Universe have done.
The new Captain Marvelfilm is given the title The Marvels. With that, Marvel Studios deviates from the rhythm that the studio itself has built. According to Giant Freakin Robot, this is a conscious choice.

An anonymous source from the Giant Freakin Robot site states that Marvel Studios would not be completely satisfied with the work of Brie Larson as Captain Marvel. According to the source “the big bosses at Marvel Studios don’t feel like they ‘delivered’ in the first movie”.
Although the site relatively often throws fairly reliable rumors into the world, the question is to what extent this news is really true. Captain Marvel was the second highest-grossing solo debut film from Marvel Studios, and the fifth-highest-grossing film in the franchise to feature no Avengerscrossover. That would make you think that Marvel can still be quite satisfied with the performance of the film.
Either way, the film will at least have a lead role for Larson’s Captain Marvel, but we’ll also follow Ms. Marvel.
