This is good news for the thermal sector which has fallen, the thermal establishments will reopen their doors from May 24th.
Among the 113 French establishments, that of Balaruc-les-Bains in the Hérault, where the decision is welcomed as a relief.
And for good reason, initially, the date of reopening of these spaces was scheduled for June 9. The sector and in particular the thermal baths of Balaruc have been living on a drip for six months. A complicated situation also for the entire economy of the city and the Thau basin, which depends on the tourists that the establishment draws in each year.
The thermal baths recorded a loss of 7.5 million euros for the year 2020 according to the mayor of Balaruc-les-Bains.
85% of the 420 employees are placed on partial unemployment.
So, this anticipation in the reopening schedule is a breath of fresh air, even if the gauge will initially be limited to 50% of spa guests.
Balaruc-les-Bains dominates the ranking of spa towns in France with Dax. They are nearly 55,000 curists to come each year to benefit from the baths.
