The EC agrees to purchase another 1.8 billion doses of BioNTech / Pfizer vaccine
Brussels, 8 May, LETA – DPA. The European Commission (EC) has reached an agreement with Covid-19 vaccine manufacturers BioNTech and Pfizer to purchase an additional 1.8 billion doses of the vaccine over the coming years, EC President Urzula von der Leiena said on Saturday.
“I am pleased to announce that [EK] has just approved a contract for a guaranteed 900 million dose, “said Leiena on Twitter.
The agreement also allows European Union (EU) countries to purchase an additional 900 million doses, the EC president said.
“Other contracts and other vaccine technologies will follow,” she added.
On April 14, the EC announced that a treaty was being negotiated, telling Leiena that the EU should focus on technologies that have proven their worth.
