PrivatBank and Oschadbank closed hundreds of branches across the country: NBU data

In Ukraine, from January 1, 2020 to April 2021, the number of bank branches decreased from 8002 to 7073. Among the leaders in terms of closure are Oschadbank and PrivatBank. At the same time, smaller financial institutions, on the contrary, increase the number of branches.

This is stated in the published on the official NBU website data. So, since January last year, Oschadbak has reduced the number of branches from 2327 to 1797, and Privat – from 1928 to 1684. At the same time, FUIB increased the bank – from 208 to 233, and Ukrzagbank – from 250 to 270.

This trend is associated with the development of financial services and mobile applications. To obtain a loan, pay for utilities, and arrange various services, you no longer need to go to a bank branch, it is enough to install the bank application on your mobile phone.

On the other hand, some operations require personal verification (identity confirmation). For example, to open your first bank account, you need to come to its branch with a passport and a code. In this regard, small banks that still do not have a widespread network of branches, on the contrary, are increasing their representation in small settlements.

As previously wrote OBOZREVATEL, in Ukraine, bank customers are considered “politically exposed persons” even if they held positions in government several decades ago.
