Wolves in constant stress
In the first two thirds, however, it didn’t look like a Freiburg success story at all. The first round in particular was a show of force in Bietigheim. From the first face-off, the Steelers made it clear that they wanted to end the series early in the here and now. They were more aggressive, played like unleashed and put the opponent in constant stress. The reward was the early 1-0 lead: After René Schoofs had played the target CJ Stretch in the barrel, the US-American Freiburg goalkeeper Enrico Salvarani looked out and scored to 0-1 (4th). From the point of view of the guests, the exploitation of chances was the only flaw in the extremely strong first 20 minutes. The wolves, on the other hand, did not get in step and seemed completely overwhelmed in the initial phase. It seemed that the burden of having to win was too much of a psychological burden on her. “If we had been callous, it could have been 4-0,” SCB coach Danny Naud later quarreled with the goal scoring.
