Although the public transport system county of The Angels count on discount programs for the low-income population, seniors and students, a lot of people do not take advantage of the benefits despite being eligible.
According to Metro officials on the 2019 figures, around the 70% of metro passengers could qualify for the agency’s low-income fee program, called LIFE (Low-Income Fare is Easy).
Currently, there are 79,000 people enrolled while some 1.6 million Los Angeles County residents are eligible for LIFE and have not applied to enroll.
These are the requirements to apply to the LIFE program:
All passengers, senior / disabled students, K-12 students (public schools), and full-time college / vocational students are eligible if their (annual) income is within these limits:
- A person in the household with an income of $ 39,450 less
- Two people in the home with an income of 45,050 dollars the least
- Three people in the home with an income of 50,700 dollars the least
- Four people in the home with an income of 56,300 dollars the least
- Five people in the home with an income of 60,850 dollars the least
- Six people in the home with an income of 65,350 dollars the least
Applicants must be 18 years or older to enroll. Individuals who receive transportation subsidies from city / county schools, employers, or who are cardholders ACCESS O U-Pass are not eligible to participate in the program LIFE.
