Hibernian star Josh Doig should be wary of a summer move to Arsenal or Leeds United with John Collins warning the left-back of potential pitfalls that await him in the Premier League, speaking to The National.

Not many players have their club selection by the age of 18, but Doig is not your typical 18-year-old.

After an impressive season of teasers at Easter Road – one that could end with SFWA’s Young Player of the Year award sitting on his mantelpiece – Hibs’ teenage talisman is already faced with a dilemma.

Hibernian president Ron Gordon has already confirmed that Leicester City are eager to sign the buccaneer winger.

Doig also has fans at Arsenal, Leeds and Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, The Sun reported in April.

For Collins, however, it is difficult to shake off an nagging feeling that this could be a classic case of “too much, too soon.”

“Doig has been the highlight of the season so far,” said the former Celtic midfielder.

“In his first season, he has done a great job. He still has a long way to go. He has yet to work on his final delivery to the checkout, but he has shown enormous potential.

“It is difficult to reject great offers but I have always felt, for a professional footballer, the most important thing is the first team jersey. You can go somewhere and get more money, but if you are sitting on the bench or in the stands, life is not so much fun.

Collins believes Doig could do a lot worse than take a leaf out of Kieran Tierney’s book.

The Scottish international honed his talents over four years at Celtic and when he finally left, joining Arsenal on a £ 20 million deal, he was ready to fight for a starting spot at the Emirates.

“Many times we see that players move too early and disappear. These English clubs have huge squads and are simply stocking up on young talents with potential, ”adds Collins.

“A great example of Doig is Kieran Tierney. He was a regular for many years at Celtic and then moved to Arsenal at the right time. It was good money for Celtic and good salary for Kieran.

“But, most important of all, he is a player from the Arsenal first team. He was not too young as a player in the squad ”.
