The political mills in the city of Bern sometimes grind very slowly. A proposal is still pending, which was submitted in 1993 and transferred in 1995.
The city council again granted a two-year extension on Thursday. The municipal council thus has until the end of 2022 to fulfill the motion of the SP parliamentary group. The point here is that the Weyermannshaus West area must have a residential share of at least 50 percent.
Mayor Alec von Graffenried (GFL) assured that business was going well. In recent years, the city has carried out a study with the landowners, developed an urban planning concept for the area and converted this into a master plan.
What the city council will particularly like: Post Immobilien AG and the civic community of Bern intend to realize a residential share of up to 80 percent. The planning draft is expected to be submitted to the city council for approval in 2022.
From this point of view, the city council could simply write off the proposal, said von Graffenried. But he is careful not to recommend a change in practice to Parliament. The city council must know what it is doing.
