This is what happens to the body when you have Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

TRIBUNJOGJA.COM, YOGYA – Disease Diabetes Mellitus (DM) can attack anyone, including children.

Diabetes is divided into two types, both of which are characterized by high levels of glucose or blood sugar.

Wiwit Ananda Wahyu Setyaningsih MSc, Lecturer at the Department of Anatomy, Faculty of Public Health and Nursing (FKKMK) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), explained that diabetes is a metabolic syndrome that attacks children and adults.

“Indeed, this DM is categorized into two types which we know as type 1 and type 2. The difference is very clear. “Type 1 occurs because of the many defects in the pancreatic beta cells,” he told Tribun Jogja, Wednesday (6/5/2021).

Meanwhile, type 2 diabetes is caused by the loss of the body’s ability to respond to insulin.

The pancreas is still producing insulin. However, the body’s cells are no longer sensitive or immune to the presence of hormones.

As a result, insulin cannot work optimally to help glucose absorption.

From there, there is a buildup of sugar in the blood.

“The risk factors that can cause type two diabetes mellitus are obesity, high fat intake and lack of activity. So, as much as possible, every day we have to move and exercise lightly, “he said.
