“Above all, there is a lack of nurses and caregivers,” explains Carine Thomas, secretary of the CGT at the Douarnenez hospital. So much so that the union has fears to provide vacation this summer in certain departments. The management says there is a lack of candidates, hence this initiative put in place this Thursday, with a stand installed on the lawn in front of the hospital. 42 people came to submit their CVs, which will be sent to management.
42 candidates, with varied profiles
CV and cover letter in hand, Lena, 27 years old and without health training, talks with CGT members. She has already tried her luck at the Douarnenez hospital, in particular after an internship in a retirement home, without having obtained a favorable response. “I want to feel useful to others, especially in the current period. So I thought I was going to come and re-apply.”
Among the 42 applications received by Carine Thomas, secretary of the CGT, there are different profiles: “nurses interested in coming to Douarnenez by transfer. We also have nursing assistants and hospital service agents. And then there are unemployed people outside, in the hospital there is work. So why not not bring people in? ”
“We are reminded of our rests”
Some services need to recruit, such as the nursing home Aux jardins du clos. Carine, a nurse, has worked there for 15 years. “We had three retirements at the start of the year. Two are replaced by contract workers, and the other is still not replaced.” Which has consequences for Carine and her colleagues. “We do not take care of 85 residents in the same way if we are alone or in pairs. We are reminded of our rest, we do not have our recuperation from public holidays, we do not have our RTTs on time.”
The CGT is now requesting an appointment with the management of the hospital, to send them the forty or so applications.
