His wife, Halima Cisse (25), gave birth to five girls and four boys by caesarean section this week. The couple thought they would have seven children, but got a surprise when it turned out to be two more. Neither the parents nor the doctors had expected it.
Prior to the birth, the doctors were concerned about both the mother and the children’s health, because there is a great risk associated with multiple births.
Lost a lot of blood
After two weeks in a hospital in Mali, Cisse was therefore moved to a specialist clinic in Morocco. After five weeks at the clinic, she gave birth to her nine children in week 30 of her pregnancy.
It was a dramatic birth where Cisse lost large amounts of blood and had to have a blood transfusion.
“The mother was at serious risk of losing her womb or losing her life,” said Yacoub Khalaf AP News. He is a professor of reproductive medicine at King’s College London, and says such births are usually associated with in vitro fertilization.

World record
The first known case of Nile was in Sydney in 1971, but none of the children survived.
Also another set were nilings were born in Malaysia in 1999. These children also survived only a few hours.
The nilings that have now been born should be the first case of nilings where all the children have survived.
Guinness World Records is working to verify this birth. According to them, the current birth record is eight children. It belongs to Nadya Suleman, who made headlines after giving birth in 2009.
