A Republican candidate for the election of the new governor of California invited a brown bear to his meeting on Tuesday, May 4.
Beauty and the Beast, election version? One of the Republican candidates to replace the governor of California caused a sensation on Tuesday, May 4, by calling on a brown bear to participate in an election rally.
John Cox held a meeting in Sacramento, the administrative capital of the state, in the presence of a kodiak bear which is considered to be the largest species of bear. The 600 kg animal, named Tag, was born in captivity and regularly appears in films and series. During the meeting, Tag made his toilet and ate treats given by his trainer.
You should know that the bear is the symbol of California and that it appears prominently on its flag.
The use of the bear has been strongly criticized by animal rights activists, such as the organization Peta which considers “unhappy and ashamed that Tag the kodiak bear was exploited in this way”.
It’s shameful that @BeastJohnCox would exploit a bear for publicity. Wild animals must be left alone, not confined to a pen & wheeled out for events. They’re not props.

California Governor Gavin Newsom is threatened with dismissal. The required number of signatures (1.5 million) has been reached. No election date has yet been set. Such a referendum allowed Arnold Schwarzenegger to become governor of the State of Califonria in 2003.
