Golf bankruptcies will not occur, catering industry will stop | Undertake

This is evident from figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). “Despite the corona crisis, we have not yet seen a huge increase in bankruptcies, which is also surprising,” says CBS economist Marjolijn Jaarsma. “Perhaps because quite a few companies fell last year, or because of the support measures.”

One man business

Of the number of companies that were closed, 85% consisted of one person. The share of companies with employees that were closed was therefore slightly higher than last year.

Incidentally, the crisis has not prevented the Dutch from starting up business: in the first quarter of 2021, some 57,000 new companies were founded. No less than 92% of this is a sole proprietorship.

Consultancy firms

The industry in which most companies were dissolved is organization and consultancy firms. Web shops selling clothing and fashion items were also closed relatively often. In addition, there are quite a few cafeterias, lunchrooms, snack bars, ice cream parlors, food stalls and the like that had to pull the plug, although there were even more in the first quarter of 2020. In that quarter, in which the corona crisis started, many restaurants also went bust.

Many starting entrepreneurs see opportunities in a webshop. The entire top five industries in which companies were founded in the first three months of 2021 are online stores. No fewer than 1050 were added in three months. According to Statistics Netherlands, the online shopping sector is one with a lot of dynamism: many companies are founded, but also closed down.
