Senators give CH a boost

The Senators helped the Montreal Canadiens on Monday night in Ottawa, defeating the Winnipeg Jets 2-1.

This Senators victory, coupled with the Habs victory, allowed the Montreal team to join the Jets in third place in the North section.

Nikita Zaitsev made the difference with his third goal of the season, scoring with the help of Drake Batherson and Connor Brown with less than two minutes left in regulation time.

Brown opened the scoring in the first period for the home side by scoring his 18th goal of the season, outnumbered.

Defender Josh Morrissey leveled the odds halfway in the third period.

Filip Gustavsson made 28 saves for the Senators while Laurent Brossoit gave up twice on 18 shots at the other end of the ice.

The Bruins in series

In Newark, the Boston Bruins secured their playoff spot by shutting out the New Jersey Devils 3-0.

This qualification of the Bruins, fourth in the East section, puts an end to the hopes of the Rangers, who were in their pursuit.

Tuukka Rask turned back 20 shots for her second shutout of the season, and her 52nd career.

Nick Ritchie, Patrice Bergeron and Matt Grzelcyk beat Scott Wedgewood, who faced 42 shots. It was also Bergeron’s 20th success this season. He reached this mark for the 12th time in his successful career.

Ovechkin comes back then leaves

In New York, the Washington Capitals defeated the New York Rangers by a score of 6 to 3.

Returning to the Capitals lineup for the first time since April 22, Alex Ovechkin was forced out of the game after just one appearance. The Russian forward retired to the locker room after just 39 seconds of play. The team then announced that he would not be back in the game due to a lower body injury.

The meeting was also marked by another gap from Tom Wilson. After delivering a vicious blow to the head of Pavel Buchnevich, who was already on the ground and unable to defend himself, the Capitals striker bluntly punched Artemi Panarin who had come to his teammate’s defense. Wilson was fined two minor harshness and 10 minutes of misconduct. Buchnevich and Panarin were also penalized.

Garnet Hathaway scored the game-winning goal for the Capitals. Among the Mika Zibanejad has scored twice for the Rangers. Kaapo Kakko also hit the target, helped by Alexis Lafrenière.
