Solo, CNN Indonesia

Residents of Gajahan Village, Pasar Kliwon Subdistrict, protesting against the decision of the Mayor of Solo, Gibran Rakabuming Raka which quits Head of the Gajahan Village, Suparno. They asked Gibran to undo his intention.

A number of residents put up banners protesting Suparno’s dismissal. Photo of banners reading “Save Suparno” and “how great the village head was fired?” Can be seen hanging on the fence of Gajahan Village Monday (3/5) in the morning. Not only that, residents also collected signatures of support for Suparno.

“I don’t accept the dismissal of the village head,” said Chairman of RT 1 RW 5 Gajahan Urban Village, Joko Purwanto.

He acknowledged that the local residents had installed the support banners on the fence of Gajahan Village. The banner was removed at the request of security personnel.

According to the plan, the residents and the PKK management will face Gibran to convey their support to Suparno.

“We will submit the collected signatures to the mayor,” he said.

According to Joko, Suparno’s performance during his tenure as Lurah Gajahan was very satisfying. He is known to be close to the residents. In fact, it is not uncommon for Suparno to spend personally to cover the costs of residents’ activities.

“He also often pays cleaning money first. If there are residents who have not paid, he really wants to cover the shortfall,” he said.

Regarding the case of extortion under the guise of zakat fitrah that befell Suparno, Joko said this had been going on since Suparno had not yet become head of the village.

“The problem of asking for levies is not to be fired immediately. How come I was immediately fired,” he said.

A similar sentiment was conveyed by the Head of Pasar Kliwon Sub-district, Ari Dwi Daryatmo. He said Suparno had been known to be close to the residents. So far, Suparno has never committed a violation.

“As far as I know, the village head is the person according to the rules. On track. This is the first time (violated),” he said.

Regarding cases of extortion for alms and zakat fitrah, Ari said that the levy originated from the initiative of the commander of the Community Protection Unit (Satlinmas) of Gajahan Village. Suparno had twice refused to sign the letter submitted by the Gajahan Urban Satlinmas Association.

“Only the third time he wants to sign. Maybe he feels sorry for his subordinates, plus the urban village has not been able to give THR,” he said.
