The tough lockdown in Vienna and Lower Austria is coming to an end. Shops are opening again today, as are personal service providers such as hairdressers. In the federal capital, the mask requirement also falls in busy places. Since the beginning of April, the two federal states – initially together with Burgenland, which reopened two weeks ago – have found themselves in a special regional lockdown. One of the reasons was an overload in the intensive care units.
The end of the measures initially introduced as Easter rest around the Easter holidays also means that the restrictive curfews in Vienna and Lower Austria no longer apply. So far, these have been in effect around the clock. For example, trips to other regions were only allowed for specific purposes.
The cultural and leisure facilities such as museums and zoos are now allowed to reopen – albeit under strict security precautions. There will only be further easing nationwide on May 19.
