The Coopératrive agroalimentaire et commerciale Purdel, du Bic, held its annual general meeting last Friday, exceptionally by videoconference.
This 93e The annual general meeting of members was held on the theme “Building tomorrow in the image of local members” and allowed to note that the last year was rich in movement for La Coop Purdel, which continued its activities despite the effects pandemic, in its five business divisions considered essential.
It was the very first annual general meeting moderated by Jean-Nil Fournier, president elected in 2020. “A special year for all of us. However, the action has not stopped and it is with pride that we present the results of the financial year to you ”he commented.
Coop Purdel’s net sales increased from $ 126 million in 2019 to $ 128 million in 2020. This advance was evident in the agricultural and retail divisions which have done very well over the past year. The Cooperative has also been very active in terms of transactions in order to improve its operations overall, its financial health and, consequently, its balance sheet.
Transition
A year of unforeseen events and resilience according to the outgoing general manager of La Coop Purdel, Gilles Blaquière, who said in his speech: “We stick together and have shown an extraordinary team spirit. This is true cooperation ”. It should be noted that the latter is starting early retirement and that he has given way to Olivier Pastor, who has held the position of Managing Director since 1is last march.
Administrators
Note that following this meeting, a virtual meeting enabled the election of officers. Thus, Jean-Nil Fournier and Georges Sirois were re-elected respectively as president and 1is vice-president, as well as Nancy Lavoie who was reelected at draw 2e vice-president.
The following administrators were also re-elected without opposition: Gilles Dupont for sector no. 3 (Les Hauteurs, Saint-Donat, Saint-Gabriel and Sainte-Luce), Georges Sirois for sector no. 8 (Amqui, Sainte-Irène, Sainte-Irène-De-Matapédia, Sayabec, Val-Brillant and Saint-Vianney-de-Matapédia) and Adrien Pitre for sector no. 9 (Albertville, Causapscal, Lac-Au-Saumon, Lac-Humqui, Saint-Alexandre-Des-Lacs, Sainte-Florence, Saint-Léon-Le-Grand and Saint-Tharcisius).

Following the presentation of the financial statements, the general meeting voted to pay a dividend in the amount of $ 547,821, of which 35% will be paid in cash to members of La Coop Purdel and 65% issued in the form of preferred shares. . Note that with this rebate and taking into account the various discounts issued by the cooperative ($ 561,654), this represents more than $ 1.1 million in return to members.
Agriculture and pig production division
Sales for the agricultural division were $ 32.1 million versus $ 30.2 million in 2018-2019, an interesting increase of $ 1.9 million. In the pork division, note that the price of pork was higher than last year ($ 1.66 / kg vs. $ 1.64 / kg at index 100).
“We sold over 44k hogs, down 2k. On the other hand, the most significant decrease can be found in the number of piglets sold, down 19k compared to last year, to 9.8k, all linked to the site transformation and disposal project. from Les Hauteurs and from St-Valérien. This led to lower sales of $ 580k compared to those of the last year, which reached $ 12.8M, ”said a statement from the company.
Retail division: hardware stores and gas stations
Retail division net sales amounted to $ 31.6 million, an increase of $ 6.5 million or 25.8%. This positive variation in turnover is mainly due to the acquisition of two new service stations. One of them operates under the Shell banner and is located in Bic and the other holds the Ultramar banner, located in the Sacré-Coeur district in Rimouski.
Energy division
Volumes of petroleum products fell by 2.4 million liters compared to last year, especially in light diesel. Net sales were $ 38.3 million, compared to $ 43.6 million, a significant decrease related to certain constraints such as the strike at CN, the railway blockades established by the natives and to add to that. , the arrival of COVID-19, but above all to a significant drop in the selling price.
Machinery division
Last year, this division had its best performance since its existence, in terms of its net surplus. This year, sales decreased by $ 697k. Most of the decline was in machinery sales, but sales of parts and services were also down.
During the course of this general assembly, the board of directors wished to underline the merits obtained by the members of the Cooperative during the year 2019-2020:
- Bergerie Alexandre Murray (3e pan-Canadian place for crossbreeding productivity according to Genovis);
- Macpès Farm (2e title of Master Breeder Gala Holstein Québec 2021);
- Ferme JM Valley Holstein (Prize Establishment and transfer of farm and cow Favorite).
During the year, Coop Purdel paid $ 59,423 to young beneficiaries of the Cooperative Fund for Agricultural Succession, which has totaled $ 412,871 since the very beginning. The Fund contributes financially to the next generation, to the development of their agronomic skills as well as in financial and cooperative management.
