Paris: with her posters, she seeks the one who saved her husband in cardiac arrest at Parc Monceau

This is the beautiful story of this Saturday evening. It all started on Twitter, a user of which shares a photo taken at Parc Monceau, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris. On his photo, we can see a thank you message on a poster hanging on a pole.

“You saved my husband’s life, it says. A man went into cardiac arrest in Parc Monceau. Thanks to someone who gave him a cardiac massage, he survived and will have little after-effects. Thank you from all our family ”. The photo posted by this Internet user was shared 2,400 times and “liked” by nearly 13,000 network users.

Beyond the emotion aroused by this message, a woman is really looking for an everyday hero or heroine. The one who wrote the text is called Lori Hinnant and her husband Peter is the miracle. Here is the story as she told us behind her call “to find and thank this person”.

Fast and effective heart massage that saved his life

It is shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday when her husband warns her that he is going to run in Parc Monceau, very close to their home in the 17th arrondissement. A habit for this sportsman, a fan of cycling. At 7.15 p.m., when he had to return before the curfew, Lori, an American journalist corresponding in France, worries that he will not return. Finally, his cell phone will ring. It’s Peter. Or rather, his phone. “I only heard the siren from the ambulance… I understood that something was going on,” says Lori. If this call is surely coming from her husband’s connected headphones, there is no one on the line.

She tries to call back several times, to no avail. Finally, after an endless quarter of an hour, Peter’s cell phone calls her back. “He was an ambulance doctor, he explained to me that my husband had suffered a cardiac arrest, that they were going to the Pompidou hospital. And this famous sentence that shivers down your spine: its vital prognosis is engaged, ”she recalls with emotion.

Once arrived in turn at the hospital, a surgeon explains to her, seeing the report of the care of her husband, 53 years old, that a witness underwent a cardiac massage “less than a minute after his fall. “. “That’s what saved his life, that intense massage. He had lesions following this cardiac massage, but the doctors have never been so happy to see these lesions, ”smiles Lori, who was able to explain to her now-aware husband how he got away with it.

After a short night, she will then make 7 or 8 posters, with the help of her children, which she will stick in the park. “I wanted to let this person know, if they come back here, that they saved their life.” The journalist will then conduct the investigation with the park warden. “He told me that the rescuer was a reserve firefighter, that she had massaged for 15 minutes, even with the arrival of her colleagues,” continues Lori.

The first witnesses stand out

Thanks to the viral message of his text published on Twitter, the first witnesses of the scene were able to contact Lori. There is in particular this message from Alizée, who works at the Regional Health Agency (ARS) of Île-de-France. “Madam, I am the person who saw your husband and we gave him first aid with my partner while waiting for this female reservist to help. I am so moved to know that your husband is doing well, we have never stopped thinking about him, ”she wrote.

A witness also comments: “Hello, I was there at the time, I helped your husband by checking if he was breathing well and put him in PLS (lateral safety position, PLS). I really think I can recognize the firefighter because I helped her with the heart massage! Do not hesitate to contact me “.

Lori was able to talk to them but no sign of the reservist. “It’s huge what she did, to stay with him. The whole life of the family has changed thanks to her. All our relatives around the world wish to thank her ”. Contacted this Saturday evening, the Paris Fire Brigade (BSPP) confirms that “this story is known internally and that the rescuer is a reservist at [nous] “. The Parisian firefighters will try to find the rescuer to put her in touch with Lori, if this heroine wishes.

Between two visits to the hospital, at Peter’s bedside, Lori, she collapses on the messages of support and help. But she already retains another crucial element: “The defibrillator in the park was also decisive. I will never ask myself again what it is for, ”she concludes, convinced of the effectiveness of this device. In France, each year, 50,000 people die of cardiac arrest.
