Companies such as Albert Heijn also joined in on the broccoli steps. This aroused anger among Surinamese Dutch people, who believe that commerce ignores the real meaning of the text.
In a response to AD let Albert Heijn know that it is more often linked to current events. “We saw that something different was heard in this song than intended (a ‘mama apple juice’) and responded with a wink. We received a lot of nice reactions and a few negative ones.”
