Chris Paul led the Phoenix Suns to victory in a Denver Nuggets thriller. The Los Angeles Lakers keep their cool in a tight game in San Antonio thanks to LeBron James and Anthony Davis. The Boston Celtics embarrass themselves in Detroit and Golden State has no chance against Portland (the highlights of the Portland vs. Golden State game in the video!).
The Boston Celtics show an alarming performance at the Detroit Pistons. The Brooklyn Nets are also weak and have no chance against Atlanta.
Charlotte Hornets (2-3) – Memphis Grizzlies (2-3) 93:108
- The Grizzlies made amends after the gossip in Boston and won a safe victory in Charlotte. Six players scored double digits, the top scorer was in the absence of the injured Ja Morant (ankle) Dillon Brooks with 21 points in five converted three-pointers.
- Overall, the Grizzlies were missing seven players, so coach Taylor Jenkins could only fall back on nine players. Memphis made a strong game after the break and increased the lead to 24 points. Kyle Anderson (18, 11 rebounds) and Jonas Valanciunas (14 and 10) recorded double doubles, Tyus Jones played 12 assists as Morant’s replacement.
- At the Hornets, the again good performance of number 3-Pick LaMelo Ball (15, 6/14 FG, 6 assists) gave courage, the point guard also provided one or the other highlight. The hosts’ top scorer was Bismack Biyombo (16, 12 rebounds), but the center should be penalized if he ever wants to try another three. Even the commentators couldn’t believe it.
- Gordon Hayward got 14 points (5/13 FG), while the backcourt consisting of Terry Rozier (6, 1/11 FG) and Devonte ‘Graham (3, 1/10 FG) completely disappointed. Coach James Borrego did not rule out the possibility that Ball could start in the near future after the game.
Detroit Pistons (1-4) – Boston Celtics (3-3) 96:93
- Now the Pistons have their first win of the season – and that was probably not planned without Blake Griffin (concussion). Jerami Grant was the hosts’ top scorer with 24 points (9/24 FG) at the same time provided a furious dunk about the powerless Daniel Theis for the highlight of the game.
- Boston started the game incredibly weak and was already 21 points behind in the first half. Jayson Tatum (28, 11/24) and Jaylen Brown (25) only woke up shortly before the break and cut short bit by bit. It was Brown who, at the beginning of the fourth quarter, scored 7 points in a row for the first Celtics lead of the evening.
- After that there was a lot of talk for the guests, a Tatum three-point 4:15 minutes before the end set to 93:88 for Boston. Subsequently, however, the Celtics awarded their last eleven litters and did not score a single point. Derrick Rose brought the Pistons back into the front with 80 seconds to go, in the end Marcus Smart (13, 9 assists), Tatum and Brown all missed opportunities to win or overtime.
- For Detroit, in addition to Grant, Rose (17, 7/12 FG) and rookie Saddiq Bey (17, 5/8 threesome) knew how to please, number 7 pick Killian Hayes (0, 0/5 FG, 6 assists) caught on a pitch black day. Theis played 24 minutes for the Celtics and had 2 counters, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Dallas Mavericks (2-3) – Miami Heat (2-3) 93:83 (Spielbericht)
Brooklyn Nets (3-3) – Atlanta Hawks (4-1) 96:114
- Atlanta remains one of the positive surprises of the young season and now stands at 4-1 in the east like Orlando, Philadelphia and Indiana. In the second duel with Brooklyn, the guests got the upper hand this time and it didn’t even need a gala from Trae Young. The point guard came up with “only” 21 points (7/21 FG) and 7 assists and this time only took four free throws. In the first games, the playmaker went to the line around 15 times per game.
- Compared to previous years, the Hawks now have a lot more options, and all starters scored double-digit. Sophomore De’Andre Hunter (23, 9/10 FG) rose to the top scorer, John Collins delivered 20 points, 8 rebounds and this furious dunk about Nets center Jarrett Allen. Clint Capela (12, 11 rebounds, 6 assists) put up a double-double.
- Atlanta didn’t give the Nets a single lead and was consistently in the front. At the break it was 9 points, in the second round it was 20 times. Brooklyn was cold from a distance (7/37 threesome), that was especially true for Kyrie Irving. The playmaker posted 18 counters and 11 rebounds, but only hit 6 of his 21 throws.
- Another dominant performance by Kevin Durant (28, 10/21 FG) was not enough, in addition to the two stars, only Joe Harris (12) landed in Double Digits. Timothee Luwawu-Cabarrot, who is the starter on the two after the Dinwiddie injury, remained ice cold. The Frenchman only hit one of his seven attempts in 21 minutes.
