When the Latvian song for the international competition was published in mid-March “Eurovision“As always, there was a public debate about the quality of the composition and also the right to represent Latvia in the big” Eurovision “- the song was not chosen in the referendum. However, “The Moon is Rising” will be in front of Europe. What is the song and what are the hopes for success, according to Delfi, the musical grandiose, whose understanding in the field is proved by their own professional success.
The composition “The Moon is Rising” has a total of four co-authors, one of them – only 28 years old Aminata Savadago, who herself finished in high fifth place in the big “Eurovision” seven years ago with the song “Love injected”. Many years before and even after that, no representative of Latvia had done so well – and every time another “failure” in social networks and kitchens is talked about. Mockery and anger have not gone unnoticed for this year’s song either – until the public initiative platform “Manabalss.lv” collects signatures for Samanta Tīna would not participate in “Eurovision”, because the song was not chosen by the Latvian people, but by the singer himself under the auspices of Latvian Television (LTV). During the month, 2247 of the required 10,000 signatures were collected. The biggest discussion was caused by the music video created for the song, but the plot of the clip is not directly transferable due to the rules of the competition; Samanta Tīna and her team are currently working on a performance that we will all see on television on May 20, when her fight for entering the Eurovision final is underway.
“Delfi” addressed several well-known Latvian and world-renowned music professionals, academically educated masters, asking for their opinion on the composition “The Moon is Rising”, evaluating the song from the aspect of its quality within the framework of this pop culture competition. Raimonds Pauls, Mārtiņš Brauns, Imants Kalnins, Juris Kulakovs, Kārlis Lācis, Ēriks Ešenvalds, Maris Sirmais gladly expressed her vision of Samantina Tina’s prospects; Ingus Baušķenieks Uldis Marhilēvičs and Zigmars Liepiņš decided to keep their opinions to themselves.
Imants Kalnins: there could even be a victory
“The song is very, very good, I really think so,” says Imants Kalniņš in a conversation with Delfi, “and this is not Aminata’s first good song! She really understands all that, very musical child,” says the composer. According to him, Samanta Tīna also sings at a high level, but in the composition Kalniņš feels the excitement of the artist.
