A historic victory. Pau FC won their first success of the season in Ligue 2. The Palois received Niort on the 8th day of the championship. A large victory in Pau (4-1) which also allows the Béarn club to leave the place of red lantern. Pau FC is now 19th in Ligue 2.
Didier Tholot: “No more reason to be afraid now, we did it, we can do it again”
The match had started badly, in front of the 1,000 spectators at the Hameau stadium (reduced size due to the curfew). Niort opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Then, the match changed when the Niort defender Paro was excluded for a sole on Kouassi. Pau regained hope and materialized by the equalizer of Assifuah in the 38th then Sabaly’s goal just before half-time. Sabaly then offered himself a brace at the 80th. The Pau even managed to score a 4th goal in stoppage time with Romain Armand. Scaramozzino missed a penalty in the 94th minute but without consequence for the Palois.
“Obviously, there was a small lead that had gradually settled on this team and so there, the fact of succeeding in erasing all that by scoring four goals changes things, explains Didier Tholot. It’s good to morale. We have no more excuses for this fear, _no more reason to be afraid now, we did it, we can do it again_.”
Next match for Pau FC, trip to Le Havre on Saturday 31 October. Les Havrais are 6th in Ligue 2.
