Pediatricians and the FDP family politician Grigorios Aggelidis are calling for an earlier corona vaccination for parents.
“We must now quickly build a protective wall around children by giving preference to parents, too,” said the member of the Bundestag of the German press agency. It will probably take months before a vaccine for children is approved. At the same time, however, more and more younger people became ill. “We have to act now to improve the situation for children and parents after the summer holidays,” said Aggelidis.
The president of the professional association of children and adolescents (BVKJ), Thomas Fischbach, called it “very useful to vaccinate parents in front of childless adults of the same age”. Children also have to be protected so that they can participate in social life again, he told the newspapers of the Funke media group. “It’s not just about school and daycare, but also about everything else that belongs to the life of a child or young person.”
Suggestion: Preferably vaccinate parents from May onwards
Aggelidis suggested inviting parents to vaccinations as a priority from mid-May. By then, there is likely to be enough vaccine available. “We also gave preference to vaccinating teachers and educators because of their systemic relevance,” he said. “Parents are even more of a link between children and the rest of society and could therefore play a key role.”
So far it is planned that corona vaccinations should be possible for everyone in Germany by June at the latest. However, that does not mean that everyone will already have an appointment. The date also depends on how reliably vaccines are delivered. – dpa
