Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
A total of 97 people were arrested during the commemoration action Labor Day International in the region Horse Statue and the Office of the International Labor Organization (ILO), Central Jakarta, Saturday (1/5).
This amount was obtained from a summary of statements submitted by the police until the May Day action ended at 17.05 WIB.
The first arrest was made of 15 Papuan students while passing in front of the US Embassy.
Head of Public Relations at Polda Metro Jaya, Sr. Comr. Yusri Yunus, said that his party was securing it for administrative reasons. He said the students did not give notice before the action.
“Yes, they are secured. Now they are going to Polda Metro, they want to demonstrate without a notification permit,” said Yusri when contacted. CNNIndonesia.com.
Subsequently, the police arrested 12 Anarkos. Yusri said that the group was arrested when they wanted to join the mass of workers at the ILO Office.
“22 Anarcho’s children were arrested,” said Yusri.
He said they were arrested because they were suspected of committing riots at the workers’ demonstration. “As usual, there are suspicions that they want to riot, so we secure it, we check it,” said Yusri.
30 students who are members of the Indonesian Catholic Student Association (PMKRI) were also arrested.
Central Jakarta Metro Police Deputy Chief AKBP Setyo Koes Hariyanto said the arrests were made because the 30 students wanted to trigger a riot by burning tires.
“Disrupting the flow of traffic carried out. About 30 people were taken to the Polda [Metro Jaya], “said Setyo.
Finally, the arrests were made of 30 students who had joined the Confederation group of the Indonesian Trade Union Alliance Congress (KASBI) and the Joint Labor Movement (Gebrak).
Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Senior Commissioner Hengki Haryadi, said the arrest was made because the student was deemed not to have carried out a health protocol (prokes) to prevent Covid-19 transmission, especially the matter of maintaining distance.
“It was not arrested, [tapi] isolated, secured because they were repeatedly told to not keep their distance, “said Hengki.
However, that figure is far from being calculated by KASBI. KASBI Chairman Nining Elitos claimed that the police arrested nearly 300 people from the May Day action in the Arjuna Wiwaha or Horse Statue area, Central Jakarta, Saturday (1/5).
“Those arrested, there were 3 workers, students and students there were around 200-300 people, but the advocacy team for democracy is currently cross-checking and conducting assistance efforts,” said Nining.
Meanwhile, from the police, the exact number of people arrested during the May Day action in Jakarta is not yet known.
CNN Indonesia.with has contacted Yusri to ascertain. However, Yusri has not given an explanation until this news is revealed.
