Marches in Turkey by May 1 ended in detentions

Mass arrests took place in Istanbul. As told in the office of the governor of Istanbul, some trade unions were allowed to hold events for Labor Day, but others, who had gathered allegedly illegally, refused to disperse, so they were detained.

According to the latest data, security forces detained 212 participants of the May demonstrations in Istanbul. The police pushed with the demonstrators, and some were laid on the ground, after which they were detained. Most of the arrests took place in Taksim Square.

It is also known about 20 detained participants in the events in the western city of Izmir.

As the agency said, on the eve of Turkey spread information that the security forces were instructed to obstruct the coverage of May Day events, in particular, to detain those who are engaged in this. However, law enforcement officers do not comment on these messages.
