Avalanches in Lyngen in Troms – NRK Troms and Finnmark – Local news, TV and radio

Two people have been found dead in the avalanche. This is confirmed by the police just before 3 p.m.

The campaign is still in full swing, as it is uncertain whether there are more people in the area.

The police were notified of the landslide at 13.25.

An air ambulance is on site, in addition to the Red Cross with several scooters.

– Two people were declared dead on the spot, says operations manager Roy Tore Meyer to NRK.

Hikers observed two people, but it is not yet known how many have been taken by the avalanche.

– We have no specific information that there will be more in the avalanche, but it is unclear and therefore we choose to continue the action, Meyer says.

Demanding area

The avalanche has passed by Sofiatinden which is described as a steep and demanding mountain.

– You should have knowledge before you go on a trip in this mountain.

This is what Daniel Larsen, leader of the Red Cross Lyngen, says. They are on site with crew and snowmobiles.

The weather in the area should be good for flying helicopters. according to careful there is now a moderate risk of landslides in the area.

The duty manager at the Avalanche Warning, Emma Julseth Barfod, says that it is easy to trigger landslides in the area due to the fresh snow.

– There has been a lot of snow and it has been cold so it may take some time before fresh forage snowflakes stabilize, says Barfod.

Sofiatinden is 1222 meters above sea level and is located in Lyngen.

Crisis staff deployed

Lyngen municipality has deployed full crisis staff as a result of the landslide accident in Sofiatinden, says mayor Dan Håvard Johnsen.

– We had hoped for a landslide winter without death, but that did not happen. Unfortunately, we have gained experience in handling such incidents, says the mayor.

So far this winter, nine people have lost their lives in landslide accidents in Norway.
