New York (dpa) – Clad trees, dancing pumpkins and many colorful dots: Works by the Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama (92) have recently been shown in the New York Botanical Garden.
The show in the green area in the Bronx, which was actually planned for 2020 and postponed due to the corona pandemic, shows – between more than a million plants – numerous objects and installations by the artist, to whom a retrospective is currently being devoted to the Gropius Bau in Berlin.
Kusama, who has become famous above all for her colored dots called “Polka Dots”, has already exhibited all over the world and has become one of the most successful artists of her generation. She now has her own museum in Tokyo.
The Botanical Garden in New York shows not only plants but also works by renowned artists. In 2018, for example, there were pictures by the US artist Georgia O’Keeffe (1887-1986). In 2019 there was a show about the Brazilian landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx (1909-1994). The Kusama exhibition should be on view until October 31st.
