After the series of defeats, the race for playoff participation will now be tight with eight games to go. They are still fifth in the Eastern Conference with 34 wins and 30 losses. The Boston Celtics, however, already have the same record as sixth. As seventh, the Miami Heat have one less win with the same number of defeats.

If the Hawks do not reach the top 6, the chance remains via the so-called play-in tournament. The teams in ranks 7 to 10 will fight for the last two remaining playoff places.
