SURYA.CO.ID, KEDIRI – People must adopt a healthy lifestyle in order to avoid hypertension (HT) and diabetes mellitus (DM).
“HT and DM patients must be controlled every month and take regular medication every day so that their condition is stable. If it is not attempted to be stable, then the condition can lead to complications, “said Dr. Gretta Hapsari, Head Puskesmas Sukorame Kota Kediri.
He explained, although costs have not been a problem since the JKN-KIS was established, the effort and time spent by sufferers and their families cannot be avoided.
HT and DM are classified as chronic diseases because the disorder occurs for a long time.
Although the initial disturbance is considered mild, these two diseases have serious consequences for the sufferer.
Delivered by dr Gretta, HT and DM are the most common chronic diseases found in health facilities (Faskes).
The results of the Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) conducted by the Ministry of Health show that the prevalence of these two diseases is increasing every year.
In addition, the age trend of the sufferers continues to shift to become younger.
To reduce the rate of increase in new cases of DM and HT so that the community applies the CERDIK program.
“For those who are still healthy and don’t suffer from chronic disease, let’s apply the CERDIK Program, namely routine health checks, get rid of cigarette smoke, be diligent in physical activity, balanced diet, get adequate rest, and manage stress,” he said.
Doctor Gretta invited people who were already suffering from HT and DM not to be discouraged and get up to maintain the stability of their condition.
Even though it cannot heal immediately, HT and DM patients can still be stabilized.
These preventive efforts include the provision of drug services, routine consultations, and recommendations for a balanced diet and nutrition.
Drug discipline should be underlined, especially for HT patients.
Sometimes HT sufferers stop taking medication because they feel good, even though slowly their tension goes up again without realizing it.
“That is why HT is known as a silent killer. The key to managing HT and DM is in a healthy lifestyle, both prevention and control,” said Gretta.
