May be relevant in the summer
NRK has previously mentioned that FHI considering coronary vaccination of children.
Pfizer’s global head of research believes it may be possible to vaccinate children as early as this summer.
Chief physician Preben Aavistland in FHI tells NRK that there have been too few results to make a proper assessment, but that they expect more results over the summer.
– A working group with us is investigating whether children should be included in the coronary vaccination program, and if so, which age groups. Any such use is not relevant for a long time yet and must be decided by the government, he says.
Among the factors that must be considered, Aavitsland points out:
- The disease burden of covid-19 in children
- Effect of vaccination in children
- Side effects in children
- Impact of the epidemic on increased immunity in the population
– Currently, we plan to vaccinate people down to 18 years and some down to 16 years if they have special diseases. It is probably the group that is most relevant among children, ie those who have various diseases that make them more prone to severe course of coronary infection, said Aavitsland to NRK last week.
Assistant health director Espen Rostrup Nakstad also told NRK that he believes vaccination of children will only be relevant after the summer.
