Roger Federer is a tennis player who has always been considered not very active on social networks. The Swiss champion, twenty-time winner of Grand Slam titles, doesn’t use much to post photos, stories and social media posts, but when he does, he usually tends to send fans to ecstasy with likes and comments under the posts.
Yesterday, Federer posted a curious photo in Bern, in the hockey stadium of the city’s official hockey team. In both photos, Federer is with his longtime friend and compatriot Severin Luthi. Lots of fan comments and most of them asked the 39-year-old tennis player to return to a tennis court.
After an absence of around fourteen months, caused by double knee surgery and the pandemic, Roger Federer returned to the field this year during the ATP tournament in Doha. In this tournament he won his first match by beating the formidable and in any case difficult British Daniel Evans and was beaten in the quarter-finals by Georgian Nikoloz Basilashvili, later winner of the tournament.
Federer showed fairly good condition and was one step away from the semi-finals with the opponent also canceling a match point. The question everyone is asking now, however, is when Federer will return to the pitch. The reality is that the Swiss recently canceled the Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid (where he originally registered) and will compete in the ATP 250 in Geneva instead, a tournament he will use to prepare for Roland Garros.
While Federer won’t be a big favorite in clay court tournaments, the Swiss champion has done everything and will be skillful and drafted for the second Grand Slam tournament of the season. Roger Federer’s declared goals in this 2021 are however two and they are clear to everyone: the Swiss are decisively aiming for the Wimbledon tournament, a tournament where he has won several times and where he dreams of the last big shot and above all of Tokyo 2021. Olympic Games, a tournament which will see Federer fight for his first gold medal at the Olympic Games in a singles tournament.
But in a recent interview, Ivan Ljubicic insisted that Roger Federer was in good shape, while also confirming the Swiss maestro’s participation in the Geneva Open.
Ljubicic talks about Roger Federer
“Roger Federer is doing very well, he should be back in Geneva,” said Ivan Ljubicic.
“In Doha he showed that he is still capable of achieving something, so we are confident. Hopefully he can play many matches to find the rhythm. We want to win big titles. ” With an eye on Wimbledon, Federer will almost certainly play at the Halle Open – where he is already on the entry list.
But there is a chance the 39-year-old will play an additional turf event – ahead of Halle – to boost his chances at SW19.
