Seattle Kraken officially became the 32nd NHL Club on Friday. The management of the overseas hockey profile confirmed its acceptance into the competition after the club paid the last amount of the total 650-million expansion fee.
The league agreed to expand the competition for a club from Seattle as early as December 2018. Kraken will join the NHL from the 2021/2022 season. The last time the prestigious competition was expanded four years ago, in the 2017/2018 season, the Vegas Golden Knights club entered the league.
“I am delighted to officially welcome Seattle Kraken as the 32nd member of the NHL on behalf of the Board of Governors,” AFP quoted competition commissioner Gary Bettman as saying.
After paying the last amount, Kraken can start signing players and making exchanges. However, he will form his staff mainly through an expansion draft scheduled for July 21, when he will choose one player from the remaining 31 profiliga clubs. Another important date for Seattle Kraken is 23.-24. July, when it will premiere talented youngsters in the NHL entry draft.
