TRIBUNNEWS.COM, JAKARTA – East Nusa Tenggara Province finished province in Eastern Indonesia, the first district / city to achieve elimination of malaria.
There are 3 districts / cities that are successful elimination of malaria namely the Regency Manggarai, Districts Manggarai East, and City Kupang.
The three areas were successfully achieved elimination of malaria for 3 years.
Head of Health Service NTT dr. Messerassi BV Ataupah said that from the three regions, Regency Manggarai accomplished elimination of malaria in 2019, while Regency Manggarai East and City Kupang was successful elimination of malaria in 2020.
“In three years we have succeeded in eliminating malaria. Previously, malaria was included in the top 2 diseases in the Puskesmas, now malaria has dropped out of the top 10 diseases in NTT. This is progress made together with the Ministry of Health, ”he said in a virtual press conference.

Messerassi said the process began in 2017.
At that time, a Governor Regulation was made NTT number 11 of 2017 concerning the Elimination of Malaria in Provinces NTT.
Since then, various efforts have been made by the local government and resulted in 3 successful districts elimination of malaria.
In addition there are 14 districts / cities in NTT with low endemic, 2 districts / cities medium endemic, and 3 districts / cities high endemic.
“High-endemic malaria districts are still concentrated on the island of Sumba,” said Messerassi.
